PKUAANC EnE Club & HYSTA EDP Round Table @ Perkins Coie
IP Protection 2: IP Strategy and Practical Considerations for a Startup
    - presented by Peking University Alumni, Bing Ai, Perkins Coie LLP

EnE club (Entrepreneur and Executive club), in an ongoing collaboration with the law firm of Perkins Coie LLP, is presenting a series of round table discussions on startup legal topics. This is the fifth session of the series and the second session on IP issues for start-up companies following the first IP session held in fall of 2012. We are very excited to partner with HYSTA EDP to co-host this event.
IP is one of the key assets for startups and can play an important role in successful launch and growth of startups. IP protection in U.S. and other countries can be complex, expensive and time consuming. Understanding the basics of IP protection can be helpful to founders of start-up companies in establishing IP protection strategies and effective IP protection programs. In this 2nd session on IP issues, Dr. Bing Ai of Perkins Coie will continue the discussion on IP strategies and practical business consierations and will also cover patent due diligence in fund raising and coporate acquisition and merger transactions.  We will leave sufficient time for free discussions on any IP issues you may have.
This 2nd IP session is independent of the first IP session and you are welcome to join us even if you missed the 1st session on IP issues.   Bing will revisit some key IP issues on patent protection mechanisms under US and international laws, IP protection in China, basic tips on IP in launching a startup (e.g., protecting proprietary information in dealing with potential investors and partners in the early stage), considerations in choosing patent protection and trade secret protection, best practices in patent filings including effective use of U.S. provisional patent filings, IP considerations in dealing with business partners and collaborators, issues in IP licensing and Internet-related IP issues.
As usual, Zhanping will kick off the initial discussion and introduce Bing Ai, Perkins Coie partner and distinguished PKU alumnus, and Bing will lead the discussion on IP protection. The session will be interactive and audience's participation in discussion is highly encouraged. Seats are limited and individuals who already have registered businesses will be given priority.
