Responsibilities
ESI is recruiting for an applications engineer with experience in the area of laser processing of materials for our Interconnect and Micromachining Division. As a member of this team, the successful candidate will utilize their skills and experience in laser micromachining of materials to develop applications, driving new market opportunities for ESI. This individual will be responsible for interfacing with customers during sample processing to insure ESI delivers results that drive customer satisfaction and success.
This individual will also interface with the division's engineering team to formulate system definitions consistent with processing needs. The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to complete complex tasks on schedule with minimal supervision while delivering quality output. The ability to function well in a fast-paced, technically challenging, multi-disciplinary environment is a must. A demonstrated ability in moving tasks through concept to design to successful implementation is required. The ability to multi-task, work on a team, and prioritize is required.
Requirements:
· B.S. or Masters degree in materials science, chemistry, electrical engineering or physics with experience in the laser processing of materials.
· Demonstrated laboratory experience with lasers and optics.
· Experience working with diode-pumped solid state (DPSS) lasers, fiber lasers, and mode-locked laser technology.
· Experience with lasers operating throughout the UV-Visible-IR range.
· Experience with lasers operating in the nanosecond and picosecond pulse width range.
· An understanding of optical systems and design. Experience with beam delivery and stage motion solutions as applied to laser processing and the integration of these components into systems is a plus.
· Experience with design of experiments (DOE) methods.
· Experience interfacing and working with customers is a plus.
· Strong problem solving skills and ability to drive issues to closure.
· Ability to travel internationally. Ability to travel to international customer sites requires appropriate work authorization to freely enter and exit primarily Asia Pacific countries.
· Fluency in Japanese, Korean or Chinese is a plus.
· Primary consideration will be given to US Citizens and US Green Card Holders.

Optical Inspection System Designer

ESI is recruiting for an optical inspection system designer reporting into the Director of Engineering in the Components, Test and Inspection Division. This individual will have experience designing optical systems for inspection and measurement applications and will be familiar with all aspects required to design a complete automated machine vision system. Using their understanding of illumination schemes, image scanning and capture methods, and image processing algorithms the successful candidate will be chartered with designing and implementing production-worthy designs to drive ESI business opportunities.
Given these responsibilities, this individual will possess excellent hands-on laboratory skills and a passion for working with both the engineering team to define and drive successful designs and the manufacturing team to ensure a successful transfer of the solution into production. The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to complete complex tasks on schedule with minimal supervision while delivering quality output. The ability to function well in a fast-paced, technically challenging, multi-disciplinary environment is a must. Requirements:
· A Ph.D. or Masters degree in optics, physics or a closely related field with a focus on optical inspection and optical design.
· Demonstrated experience in the design and successful implementation of production-worthy optical systems.
· Demonstrated experience in visible light imaging systems for industrial machine vision applications.
· An understanding of illumination schemes in both reflection and transmission based systems.
· Experience with optical scanning and image capture techniques.
· Experience with image processing methods and algorithm development.
· Experience interfacing and working with customers is a plus.
· Strong problem solving skills and ability to drive issues to closure.
· History of IP development as evidenced by a strong patent portfolio is a plus.
· Strong record of technical publications and conference presentations is a plus.
· Imaging and optical component product selection experience.
· Experience with optical design/analysis and optical SW applications; (e.g. Zemax, FRED, OSLO, Code V).
· Ability to travel internationally. Ability to travel to international customer sites requires appropriate work authorization to freely enter and exit primarily Asia Pacific countries.
