Sr. Director of Engineering – Systems (104668)

We are looking for a senior  principal level, highly motivated systems engineer/scientist  to join the engineering team that creates the world's most advanced semiconductor wafer inspection equipment.

 

The successful candidate will take a leadership role in the architectural  system design of cutting edge wafer inspection equipment from the initial architectural analysis through production release.   Emphasis will be placed on generating architectures/designs that are world class performance leaders, cost effective and reliable, and also highly manufacturable and serviceable.

 

Activities will include conceptual architectural design, modeling, detailed architectural  analysis, development of product specifications, converting product specifications into subsystems requirement, provide technical leadership to the team in developing key components,subsystems specs, vendor management, prototype assembly and test as well as supporting manufacturing during the product release.  This is a leadership role that will require interaction with opto-mechanics engineers, systems engineers and electrical engineers and SW to ensure that all system requirements are understood and met. Successful candidate should be also capable in promoting proposed architecture of a product to upper management and able to clearly communicate/prove advantages of proposed architecture relatively to alternatives and ability of team meet time to market requirements for proposed product.

Qualifications

BS with 10+ years or MS or PhD with 7+ years of development wafer inspection, and or other semiconductor inspection and metrology optical systems.

Strong experience in development of wafer inspection and metrology systems, fundamental understanding of semiconductor wafer defects laser light scattering, interferometry, laser physics, optical detectors, physics of PMT and TDI detectors, a track record of applying those skills and experience  to create world leading  manufacturable and serviceable systems.

Must have participated in several complete design cycles from initial concept through product release and sustaining.

This position is for KLA-Tencor. KLA-Tencor is an industry leading supplier of wafer inspection and metrology systems. Qualified candidate should have hands-on experience in designing, building and troubleshooting autofocus systems. Candidate will be a part of the team working on development of wafer inspection system. Job responsibility is to lead development effort of precision high speed  auto-focus system. Major responsibilities are modeling of concepts of auto focus system, developing error budgets, working with design engineering to prototype and test selected system, using test results to optimize the prototype and finally introduce that system into manufacturing.

Research Scientist (104321)

The engineering team that creates the world's most advanced bare wafer and un-patterned monitor wafer inspection equipment is looking for a Research Scientist to work on the newest product line.

 

The Research Scientist will be responsible for designing and conducting experimental trial and feasibility investigations to provide valuable guidance for KLA-Tencor products.  He or she would be expected to design experiments and run experimental trials that involve optical characterization and other physical measurements.

He or she would evaluate and recommend designs and best practices for optics reliability. In support of this, he or she will need to develop individual benches and/or testing apparatus, acquire, analyze and present data.  This person must be capable of contributing to design reviews and work closely design engineers to provide guidance.  Other duties would include performing vendor audits and vendor management.

 

Qualifications

Ph.D. or Masters plus 3 years relevant experience.

A strong background in Physics, Optics, or Physical Chemistry is desirable.

The successful candidate will have a proven record of designing complex experiments or engineering trials that involve sophisticated data collection and other physical measurements.  The candidate must have high proficiency in analytical data analysis including GC/MS, XPS, Auger, AFM, Tof-SIMS, FTIR, Ion chromatography, and other related techniques.  He or she must demonstrate the ability to extract clear results from large, complex data sets.  Excellent communication and presentation skills are required.

Familiarity with high vacuum systems is preferred.

 

 

Product Development Engineer (104298)

The engineering team that creates the world's most advanced bare wafer and un-patterned monitor wafer inspection equipment is looking for a product development engineer to work on the newest product line.

The candidate will assume responsibility for system characterization, subsystem specification, selection, performance testing, and technical interaction with vendors.

This is a hands-on position.  The candidate will use cutting edge performance verification tools in optics, mechanics and electronics. System level inspection tool operation will be used to establish and verify subsystem requirements and operation.

The candidate will collaboratively interact with a multidisciplinary project team and regularly communicate requirements and results in oral and written form.

 

Qualifications

BS degree plus 5 years experience OR Master's degree plus 3 years experience OR Ph.D. degree.

Understands and uses Systems Engineering principles and is able to apply them to product development and improvements.  Has engineering expertise that is deep in at least one area and broad across other engineering disciplines. We are looking to grow the Systems Characterization team within the Systems Engineering group in the Surfscan division.  In this position the candidate will have to develop a thorough understanding of Surfscan products with regards to calibrations, optics, mechanical systems, electronics, and software in order to contribute to new product development. 

The goal of this position is to characterize tool performance and analyze the root causes of performance limitations down to the component level in order to make improvements.  The investigations of possible limitations may require modeling of systems HW and simulation of SW algorithms not currently available on the tool.  Proposed solutions can affect any aspect of the system and will require collaboration with the respective groups for prototyping and testing.

KLA-Tencor's Surfscan division, a market leader in the unpatterned wafer inspection business, is looking to recruit a highly motivated Sr Systems Engineer with the ability to interact with and, at times, lead a multidisciplinary project team. The successful candidate will work on projects to improve and build on a UV wafer inspection system - a flagship product of a $1B+ semiconductor capital equipment manufacturer.

Sr. Optics  Engineer – Materials  (104384)

Successful applicant must demonstrate real-world experience as an optical materials and optical processes expert.  All candidates will be required to present a summary of their educational and work experience backgrounds to an audience of highly technical subject-matter-experts at time of interview.  Job skills include thorough working knowledge of laser induced damage mechanisms including fused silica compaction phenomenology, Gaussian beam propagation theory including impacts from photodeposition on M2 and laser beam quality,  stress induced birefringence theory and other physical artifacts produced by laser compaction, as well as fundamental optical scattering theory arising from both bulk and surface quality defects.  Ability to construct complex systems error models and budgets having all critical optical parameters necessary to account for changes in beam shape and size, focal depth, polarization, and transmission due to laser induced damage and UV photodeposition.  In addition to illumination system modeling, ability to design and/or implement highly sophisticated optical test benches and metrology tools is highly desirable.  Candidate needs to work as a team player, to regularly communicate progress achieved, to complete project milestones on time, and to conduct Best Practice audits of precision optics suppliers effectively.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor's Level Degree with at least 7 years of experience.

Master's Level Degree with at least 6 years of experience.

Doctorate (Academic) with at least 5 years of experience.

Optical Systems Engineer (104777)

KLA-Tencor's Surfscan Division, a market leader in the unpatterned wafer inspection business, is looking to recruit a highly adaptive UV optical systems engineer with laser/lens design familiarity. The succesful candidate will support the fabrication, alignment, and integration processes for the SP2 and SP3 products - flagship product lines for a $1B+ semiconductor capital equipment manufacturer.  The candidate will interact with the most dynamically integrated and UV knowledgeable companies in the optics industry to improve upon opto-mechanical module solutions having sufficient degrees of freedom to meet module performance, manufacturability, and serviceability goals while not destabilizing the overall optical system.  In improving upon these highly-robust, opto-mechanical modules, careful attention to all fabrication details will be required to achieve all critical performance criteria including transmitted wavefront, transmission, scatter, absorption, polarization, spot size, etc.  Additional development details for the optical system integration process, alignment methods, and metrology pass/fail guidelines both during factory integration and during customer operation in the field must be carefully defined and well documented to avoid cost and cycle time overruns from the program specific goals.

Candidate will also have opportunities to interact in a cross functional team which includes marketing, manufacturing, and global service teams to fully understand improvement goals and requirements.

Some travel will be required to visit top end suppliers and to support designs on high level customer escalations.

 

Qualifications:

Candidate must have the following: Bachelor's degree with at least 10 years of experience, Master's degree with at least 8 years of experience, or PhD with at least 7 years of experience in the optical design and engineering fields.  Candidate should also have all requisite skills to tolerance allocate/budget and assemble/test optical subsystems/modules while handling multiple vendor interactions and internal/external design reviews.  This would include but is not limited to proficiency in sequential ray tracing codes (CodeV or Zemax) and exposure to at least one non-sequential (3D) modeling tool (Zemax, LightTools, ASAP, FRED) to simulate and perturb both individual components and/or entire subsystems.  Candidate must demonstrate track record of successful completion of internal project milestones and deliverables on time and with limited supervision.  Ability to travel both in US and abroad is required.  System level design and characterization experience is a plus.
