Sr. Director of Engineering – Systems (104668)

We are looking for a senior  principal level, highly motivated systems engineer/scientist  to join the engineering team that creates the world's most advanced semiconductor wafer inspection equipment.

 

The successful candidate will take a leadership role in the architectural  system design of cutting edge wafer inspection equipment from the initial architectural analysis through production release.   Emphasis will be placed on generating architectures/designs that are world class performance leaders, cost effective and reliable, and also highly manufacturable and serviceable.

 

Activities will include conceptual architectural design, modeling, detailed architectural  analysis, development of product specifications, converting product specifications into subsystems requirement, provide technical leadership to the team in developing key components,subsystems specs, vendor management, prototype assembly and test as well as supporting manufacturing during the product release.  This is a leadership role that will require interaction with opto-mechanics engineers, systems engineers and electrical engineers and SW to ensure that all system requirements are understood and met. Successful candidate should be also capable in promoting proposed architecture of a product to upper management and able to clearly communicate/prove advantages of proposed architecture relatively to alternatives and ability of team meet time to market requirements for proposed product.

 

The ideal candidate will love hard challenges and will enjoy working in the lab and troubleshooting issues on the final product as much as they enjoy modeling and computer simulations.

 

Qualifications

BS with 10+ years or MS or PhD with 7+ years of development wafer inspection, and or other semiconductor inspection and metrology optical systems.

Strong experience in development of wafer inspection and metrology systems, fundamental understanding of semiconductor wafer defects laser light scattering, interferometry, laser physics, optical detectors, physics of PMT and TDI detectors, a track record of applying those skills and experience  to create world leading  manufacturable and serviceable systems.

Must have participated in several complete design cycles from initial concept through product release and sustaining.

Responsible for system architecture definition, modeling, design, integration and characterization of optical inspection and metrology systems in semiconductor industry.

 

The ideal candidate is an innovative thinker, with solid background in multiple areas, including theoretical and experimental knowledge of physical optics, optical metrology, light sources and sensors, data analysis, signal processing, 

 

Logical and systematic conversion of customer/market requirements into total system solutions and/or improvement projects that consider technical, schedule and cost constraints. Defines the requirements and architecture for whole systems, subsystems and improvement projects and makes sure the system is designed, developed, integrated and tested to meet the requirements. Able to make whole system connections and see the big picture. Sr. System Design Engineer (104555)

This position is for KLA-Tencor. KLA-Tencor is an industry leading supplier of wafer inspection and metrology systems. Qualified candidate should have hands-on experience in designing, building and troubleshooting autofocus systems. Candidate will be a part of the team working on development of wafer inspection system. Job responsibility is to lead development effort of precision high speed  auto-focus system. Major responsibilities are modeling of concepts of auto focus system, developing error budgets, working with design engineering to prototype and test selected system, using test results to optimize the prototype and finally introduce that system into manufacturing.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor's Level Degree with at least 7 years of experience.

This position is for Product development team in KLA-Tencor. This group is working on wafer inspection system. Candidate will be working with development team to develop light source specifications for wafer inspection system and than working with laser vendors to develop laser that meet requirements.  Candidate will be involved in the design process from concept and verification through test and evaluation.. Experience with commercial laser development will be essential for this position

Research Scientist (104321)

The engineering team that creates the world's most advanced bare wafer and un-patterned monitor wafer inspection equipment is looking for a Research Scientist to work on the newest product line.

 

The Research Scientist will be responsible for designing and conducting experimental trial and feasibility investigations to provide valuable guidance for KLA-Tencor products.  He or she would be expected to design experiments and run experimental trials that involve optical characterization and other physical measurements.

He or she would evaluate and recommend designs and best practices for optics reliability. In support of this, he or she will need to develop individual benches and/or testing apparatus, acquire, analyze and present data.  This person must be capable of contributing to design reviews and work closely design engineers to provide guidance.  Other duties would include performing vendor audits and vendor management.

 

Qualifications

Ph.D. or Masters plus 3 years relevant experience.

A strong background in Physics, Optics, or Physical Chemistry is desirable.

The successful candidate will have a proven record of designing complex experiments or engineering trials that involve sophisticated data collection and other physical measurements.  The candidate must have high proficiency in analytical data analysis including GC/MS, XPS, Auger, AFM, Tof-SIMS, FTIR, Ion chromatography, and other related techniques.  He or she must demonstrate the ability to extract clear results from large, complex data sets.  Excellent communication and presentation skills are required.

Familiarity with high vacuum systems is preferred.

 

 

Product Development Engineer (104298)

The engineering team that creates the world's most advanced bare wafer and un-patterned monitor wafer inspection equipment is looking for a product development engineer to work on the newest product line.

The candidate will assume responsibility for system characterization, subsystem specification, selection, performance testing, and technical interaction with vendors.

This is a hands-on position.  The candidate will use cutting edge performance verification tools in optics, mechanics and electronics. System level inspection tool operation will be used to establish and verify subsystem requirements and operation.

The candidate will collaboratively interact with a multidisciplinary project team and regularly communicate requirements and results in oral and written form.

 

Qualifications

BS degree plus 5 years experience OR Master's degree plus 3 years experience OR Ph.D. degree.

Understands and uses Systems Engineering principles and is able to apply them to product development and improvements.  Has engineering expertise that is deep in at least one area and broad across other engineering disciplines. Must have the knowledge and experience to effectively work with experts in optics, laser, stage, loader, image computer, and algorithms to actively assist in resolving the issues. Has strong leadership, effective communication and adroit problem solving skills. Defines the top level system specifications, allocates requirements to the subsystems, calculates the system error budget, defines and resolves interfaces and working parameters for the optimum hardware/software solution. Performs functional analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to develop solutions that optimize system performance. System Development Engineer (104275)

We are looking to grow the Systems Characterization team within the Systems Engineering group in the Surfscan division.  In this position the candidate will have to develop a thorough understanding of Surfscan products with regards to calibrations, optics, mechanical systems, electronics, and software in order to contribute to new product development. 

The goal of this position is to characterize tool performance and analyze the root causes of performance limitations down to the component level in order to make improvements.  The investigations of possible limitations may require modeling of systems HW and simulation of SW algorithms not currently available on the tool.  Proposed solutions can affect any aspect of the system and will require collaboration with the respective groups for prototyping and testing.

Some time will be spent supporting new use cases being developed jointly with customers.  In these collaborations the function of this position would be to develop new calibration standards, to provide advanced data analysis and guide the applications development team.

Sr. Systems Engineer (104562)

KLA-Tencor's Surfscan division, a market leader in the unpatterned wafer inspection business, is looking to recruit a highly motivated Sr Systems Engineer with the ability to interact with and, at times, lead a multidisciplinary project team. The successful candidate will work on projects to improve and build on a UV wafer inspection system - a flagship product of a $1B+ semiconductor capital equipment manufacturer.

 

The primary job responsibilities include but are not limited to defining top level system requirements based on marketing input, allocating requirements to various subsystems, calculating system error budgets, proposing optimum hardware/software solutions, and performing system integration tests.  The candidate will collaboratively interact with or lead multidisciplinary project teams and regularly communicate requirements and results in oral and written form.

 

Additional responsibilities include interactions with operations and global services in system troubleshooting on high level escalations.

Systems Engineer (104560)

Job Description:

 

The successful candidate will work in the SurfScan Sustaining Engineering group as a Systems Engineer. This engineer is responsible for supporting the design and operations of the world's most advanced bare silicon wafer inspection equipment.

 

This role will involve the design of mechanical, electrical, and optical systems of the current products to accommodate evolving customer requirements and product improvement requirements. 

           

Responsible for guiding extended remote teams to solutions on extremely complex technical issues in robotic, optical, electrical, and mechanical systems. When unable to guide team to success remotely, will be required to travel to tool and fix it in person. < 25% travel required. Valid passport and ability/willingness to travel is required.

 

Characterization testing, validation testing, and advanced specification generation required for existing products and for proposed improvements. Candidate responsible for detailed test plans, performing tests, test reporting, complex data analysis, and communicating the results and implications of these results to a wide audience including customers and high level internal management.

 

Qualifications

MS or Ph. D with optical emphasis/involvement is highly preferred. A BS degree in optical engineering, systems engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, physics or a relevant discipline is required. 

 

Must have a proven record of effective communication and leadership skills showing the ability to effectively lead and interact with multinational/globally-located cross functional teams.

 

Candidate is expected to have been the top-tier hands-on engineer or scientist at previous school or company, fully capable of diagnosing and correcting the least obvious of technical anomalies. Experience solving a wide range of complex technical problems in either an industrial or academic background is required.

 

Experience in designing or maintaining optical, motion control, or electronic systems desired.

Product Development Engineer (104597)

Surfscan-ADE division of KLA-Tencor is looking for a Sr. system design engineer to join its engineering team in Milpitas, California.  The successful candidate will play a key role in engineering team and will be responsible for developing and sustaining KLA-Tencor state-of-the-art wafer geometry and surface nano-topography products.  The job responsibilities include but not limited to define top level system requirements based on marketing requirements, allocate requirements to the subsystems, calculates the system error budget, propose optimum hardware/software solution, perform system integration tests and system characterization, system trouble shooting and escalation support.

 

Qualifications:

MS or Ph. D. new college graduate in optics, physics, electrical engineering, or related fields; The successful candidate must have hands-on experiences related to optical, opto-mechanical systems, data acquisition, motion control hardware and firmware.  Must be familiar with interferometer principles, phase-shifting technology, and image processing algorithms.  Hands-on experience in surface metrology tools for characterizing nano topography of semiconductor wafers is highly desirable. Familiar with SW tools such as Matlab, JMP. Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills are required. Experience in tunable lasers and fiber-optics illumination systems is a plus. Work in an engineering team of scientists, system, mechanical and software engineers to develop the next generation of wafer geometry metrology products.  Job duties are including but not limit to 1) work with senior SDE to develop metrology system and subsystem specifications; 2) participate in design, develop, modify and evaluate the data acquisition and motion control electronic and pneumatic systems;  3) evaluate the current architecture and improve the critical design parameters to improve the system performance and reliability; 4)document design, testing and diagnosis procedures to transfer the design to manufacturing; 5) Support the production and field service.
