Abstract:

This talk starts with a short introduction of the principle of Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) and its history, then the applications and the current status of these applications.

There are two important applications for AMOLED technology. One is display and the other is lighting. Small displays in mobile phones made from OLED are becoming popular and show several advantages over those made from LCD. Larger size displays for notebook computers and for TV are the next targets of OLED applications. In addition, flexible displays based on OLED technology are actively under development by many display companies. OLED lighting also gained great attention, particularly, in Europe. A couple of companies have started the production.

The status of OLED technology in US, Japan, Taiwan, Korea and China, the investment of these countries in AMOLED and the future of OLED will also be discussed in this talk.
